Week 9 saw two members of our History Department present at NSW History Teacher conferences.
On Monday 21st of March, Head of History, Mr Scali presented at the AISNSW History Conference entitled “Contested Discourses: Reframing the Discipline of History.” Mr Scali’s presentation was on teaching Ancient China in the Stage 4 History course. The presentation focused on helping teachers build confidence in ancient Chinese history through deepening their understanding of archaeological remains in China as well as how the ancient Chinese past has resonance in contemporary China.
On Saturday the 26th of March, Mr Scali and Mrs Asquith presented at the History Teachers’ Association of NSW Stage 6 Conference Day. Mrs Asquith’s presentation was entitled “Conflict in Indochina: Analysing US Intervention” and Mr Scali’s presentation related to History Extension and was entitled “Preparing Students for Q2 in the HSC.”
Both Mrs Asquith and Mr Scali gained much from developing presentations designed to enhance the pedagogy of History teachers across NSW and enjoyed the opportunity to connect with peers from other schools and share the Loreto Normanhurst History Department’s approach to the teaching of History.
