As you are aware, this year we have commenced a review of our school uniform. Thank you to all of those in our community who responded to the Uniform Review Survey in Term 2. Through this survey we were able to gain valuable input from a cross-section of just over 1800 students, parents, alumnae and staff to guide the next stage of the project. The input received has provided clarity on key areas of the Uniform Review Brief including:
We are pleased to announce that Jonathan Ward has been appointed as our partner to work with us on the Uniform Review. Jonathan is a prominent Australian school wear designer, who has successfully partnered with a broad range of schools for their uniform design projects. There will be ongoing consultation with focus groups across the community throughout the process and updates on progress will be shared when relevant. Any questions on this important project can be directed to the Deputy’s Office at deputyprincipal@loretonh.nsw.edu.au.

Based on ongoing feedback we have received, we are currently evaluating the platforms and procedures relating to communication and would like to hear from our parents about how we can streamline and improve the communication experience with the School.
We would appreciate you completing this anonymous survey by Monday, 30 October if you have not already. The survey is expected to take no more than 10 minutes.

Once completed, the results of the survey will be analysed and will be used to determine priorities and actions for the improvement of our communication tools and landscape. The 2023 Principal’s Spelling Bee was an enjoyable but challenging experience for all students in Year 5 and 6. All students performed well during the class heats on Monday, 16 October. Three students from each class that performed exceptionally well, advanced to the next level. On Friday, 20 October, the 18 students who progressed to the final worked very hard and really tested their spelling ability in order to stay in each round, which progressed in difficulty. Eventually, we made it down to three contestants. The Principal’s Spelling Bee was a fun experience, and I was ecstatic to be able to compete in the final.

On Wednesday, 18 October, Year 5 went to Knox Primary School with Abbotsleigh for the very first Year 5 Leadership Day combining the three Primary Schools. We did many fun activities with students from the other schools to help understand leadership and how to be a great leader. Some of these activities were flip the tarp, cops and robbers, tic tac toe, characteristics of a good leader and many more. We all enjoyed these amazing activities because they helped us develop some awesome skills to be a great leader. The best part was that we were put in groups with a mix of boys and girls. We made so many new friends and reunited with old ones. This was really enjoyable, and we hope that the next Year 5 enjoy it even more!

On Tuesday afternoon, all of Year 5 got together for an online meeting with all the other Loreto Primary Schools around Australia to learn about leadership and the lessons we could learn from Mary Ward. We found out last term that our buddy school was Loreto Marryatville in South Australia. We were allocated a buddy who is also in Year 5 and we got to write them a letter in the post and received a letter back! It was so exciting.
At the start of our event, Ms Ugonotti starting by welcoming all the schools and encouraging us to all be leaders. We then listened to a talk from Mrs Caroline Young, who works for Loreto Ministries as the Director of Mission and Identity. We learnt about Mary Ward and the examples she set of being kind and compassionate to those around us and persisting through tough times.
Then, some of the Year 11 Loreto Normanhurst leaders came down and talked to us about leadership and what positions they have in the high school. After that we connected on a zoom call to Loreto Marryatville to our buddies and talked about Year 6 leadership in our schools and how we could all be leaders, even if we don’t have a badge and a particular position. I had a wonderful time and learned a lot of things I can use next year when I am in Year 6 and in the future.
